TACHILEIK
The city of Tachilek is located right on the
Myanmar Thai Border, across from the city of Mai
Sai in Thailand. It was principally a border
town until it was launched together with Kyaing
Tong as a tourist destination in February 2003
that tourists can visit from Thailand. Atop a
small hill overlooking the city, is an large
golden pagoda, built as a replica of Yangon's
famous Shwedagon. Other must see activities
abound. Tachilek can be reached by air from
Yangon, Heho or Mandalay. Air Bagan operates
regular flights between Yangon, Mandalay, Heho
and Tachilek.
